When your Malet outgrows the Starter plan, upgrading to Pro unlocks more capacity, advanced features, and the ability to invite team members. Because the Pro plan requires your Malet to be owned by an Organization, the upgrade process automatically helps you create an Organization and safely transfers your Malet to it.
This guide explains how to perform the upgrade, what happens to your data, and how outside guests are transitioned.
How to Upgrade Your Malet
If you currently have a personal Starter Malet, you can upgrade it directly from The Deck dashboard:
- Open The Deck (
/dashboard) and find the Malet you want to upgrade. - On the Malet card, click the green Upgrade button.
- A dialog will appear with two options:
Option A: Upgrade & Transfer (Recommended)
This creates a new Organization and transfers your existing Malet into it:
- Enter a name for your new Organization (e.g., "Acme Designs").
- Review the auto-generated URL handle, or customize it.
- Optionally add a category (e.g., "Fashion", "Tech").
- Choose Monthly or Yearly billing (yearly saves 20%).
- Click Upgrade & Transfer to proceed to secure Stripe checkout.
Once your payment succeeds, the system automatically:
- Creates your new Organization.
- Transfers ownership of your Malet from your personal account to the new Organization.
- Attaches the Pro subscription to your Organization.
- Redirects you to a confirmation page with a link to your new Organization.
Option B: Create a New Pro Malet
If you'd rather start fresh, click Create New Pro Malet. This takes you to the Malet creation wizard with the Pro tier pre-selected. Your original Starter Malet remains personal and unchanged.
You can then immediately start adding team members and managing your Organization settings.
NOTE
All of your Malet's products, orders, settings, and designs are preserved exactly as they were during the transfer. There is zero downtime.
What Happens to Collaborators?
On the Starter plan, you might have invited outside guests (Collaborators) to help manage your Malet. When you upgrade to Pro, these collaborators are automatically upgraded as well.
During the upgrade, the platform converts your outside collaborators into full Organization Members. Their new roles are based on their previous access level:
- Full Access collaborators become Admins.
- Edit Content or Manage Orders collaborators become Members.
- View Only collaborators become Viewers.
IMPORTANT
The Pro plan includes up to 10 team members. If converting all your previous collaborators would exceed this limit, the system will only convert up to the limit. Any remaining collaborators will have their access safely revoked until you add more capacity (or upgrade to Enterprise).
If you want to manually adjust roles or add new people after the upgrade, you can do so in the Custom Roles & Permissions section of your Organization settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep my Malet personal instead of creating an Organization? No. The Pro plan includes team management and enterprise features that require an Organization structure. However, if you are the only member, it will function much like a personal Malet, just with higher limits and lower commission rates.
What if the Organization name I want is already taken? Organization URLs (slugs) must be unique across the platform. If the name is taken, the checkout process will pause and ask you to choose a different, unique name before proceeding. You will not be charged if the name is unavailable.
Can I downgrade back to Starter later? Yes, you can cancel your Pro subscription. If you do, you will lose access to team management and Pro features, but your Malet will remain under the Organization structure (it will not revert to personal ownership). See Managing Your Subscription for more details.
