The Online Presence feature helps you know when your conversation partners are currently active on Mallnline, making it easier to have real-time discussions. You will see a small, pulsing green dot next to the avatars of users who are currently online.
How it Works
The green presence indicator (đĸ) appears on your uChat Messenger conversation cards and in the chat header when the other person is actively browsing the platform.
Here is how the system determines who is online:
- Active Connection: When you log in and browse any page on Mallnline, the system securely marks you as "online" in the background.
- Immediate Updates: As soon as you open the platform, your presence is instantly broadcasted to anyone you are actively chatting with.
- Automatic Offline Status: If you close your browser tab or lose your internet connection, the system automatically removes your online status within a few seconds. You do not need to manually log out to appear offline.
NOTE
For Developers: See uChat Online Presence Architecture for the full technical overview of how WebSockets and Redis manage presence states globally.
Managing Your Visibility (Opt-Out)
We believe your privacy is paramount. By default, your online presence is shared with your active conversation partners, but you can turn this off at any time.
If you prefer to browse Mallnline invisibly:
- Navigate to your Account Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Toggle off Show Online Presence.
When this setting is disabled, you will appear entirely offline to everyone, even if you are actively sending them messages in uChat. You can learn more about these toggles in the Privacy, Data & Cookie Settings manual.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I turn off my online presence, can I still see if others are online? Yes. Disabling your own online presence only hides your status from others. You will still see the green dot for other users who have their presence enabled.
Can Malet Owners see if I'm online while browsing their store? No. Online presence is strictly limited to your active uChat conversation partners. Malet Owners cannot monitor your real-time presence on their storefront pages.
Why does the green dot disappear right after someone sends a message? If a user closes their app or browser tab immediately after hitting send, their connection drops, and the system automatically updates their status to offline within 10 seconds.
