Every product listing in your Malet deserves polished, professional images. The Media Uploader gives you built-in editing tools so you can crop, rotate, resize, and reorder your images without leaving Mallnline — no separate photo editor needed.

Uploading Images

To add images to a product, open the product editor from The Deck and scroll down to the Product Gallery section.

  • Click: Tap the "+ Add Media" button or click the drop zone area.
  • Drag & drop: Drag image files directly from your computer onto the gallery area.
  • Multiple files: You can select or drop multiple images at once. The maximum is 10 images per product.

Supported Formats

Format Extension
JPEG .jpg, .jpeg
PNG .png
WebP .webp
GIF .gif
AVIF .avif
SVG .svg

NOTE

Each image must be under 10 MB. Larger files will be rejected with a size error. All uploaded images are automatically optimized and converted to WebP for fast loading.

What Happens During Upload

When you upload an image, you'll see a real-time processing indicator showing exactly what's happening behind the scenes:

  1. Uploading to cloud — Your file is being transferred to our servers.
  2. Optimizing image — The image is converted to WebP format for smaller file sizes and faster page loads.
  3. Generating thumbnails — Three thumbnail sizes (small, medium, large) are created for responsive display.
  4. Creating placeholder — A tiny blur preview is generated so Visitors see instant content while the full image loads.
  5. Removing background (optional) — If enabled, AI processes the image to isolate the subject from its background.

Each stage appears as a dot indicator on the upload card — completed stages turn green, the active stage pulses, and pending stages stay gray.

AI Background Removal

If your product images have busy backgrounds, you can enable AI Background Removal before uploading:

  1. Check the "Remove BG" toggle above the image gallery.
  2. Upload your image as normal.
  3. The processing pipeline will include an extra step to isolate your product from its background.

TIP

Background removal works best with product photos that have a clear subject against a contrasting background. It's ideal for fashion items, electronics, and packaged goods.

Editing an Image

Already uploaded an image but need to adjust it? Every image in your gallery has a ✏ī¸ Edit button that appears when you hover over it.

Tapping Edit opens a full-screen editor with three tools:

Crop

Trim your image to focus on what matters.

  • Choose from preset aspect ratios: Free, 1:1 (square), 4:3, 3:4, 16:9, or 9:16.
  • Drag the selection rectangle to position your crop.
  • Use the corner and edge handles to resize the selection.
  • A rule-of-thirds grid helps you compose visually balanced crops.
  • The dimensions of your selection are displayed in pixels below the crop area.
  • Tap "Apply Crop" when you're happy with the selection.

TIP

Use the 1:1 preset for profile-style product shots, and 16:9 for banner-style hero images. The Free option lets you crop to any shape.

Rotate

Straighten a tilted photo or change its orientation.

  • 90° CW — Rotate the image clockwise by a quarter turn.
  • 90° CCW — Rotate the image counter-clockwise.
  • Flip Horizontal — Mirror the image left-to-right.
  • Flip Vertical — Mirror the image top-to-bottom.

The current rotation and dimensions are displayed in the tool panel.

Resize

Scale your image up or down.

  • Enter a new Width or Height — the other dimension adjusts automatically when the aspect ratio lock is on (🔒).
  • Click the lock icon to unlock independent resizing.
  • Use the percentage presets (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 150%, 200%) for quick scaling.
  • Tap "Apply Resize" to confirm.

WARNING

Images larger than 4096 × 4096 pixels cannot be exported. If your dimensions exceed this, you'll see a warning and the Apply button will be disabled.

Saving Your Edits

When you're done editing:

  1. Tap "Apply & Re-upload" in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Your edited image will be re-uploaded through the same optimization pipeline — so thumbnails and placeholders are regenerated automatically.
  3. The old image in your gallery is replaced with the edited version.

NOTE

Edits are non-destructive until you tap "Apply & Re-upload." If you change your mind, tap "Reset" to revert to the original, or "Cancel" to close without saving.

Reordering Images

The order of images in your gallery determines how they appear on your product page. The first image becomes the primary image shown in search results and the Lobby.

To reorder:

  1. Grab any image card by clicking and holding.
  2. Drag it to the desired position — you'll see a blue highlight on the drop target.
  3. Release to confirm the new order.

A numbered badge appears on each image when you hover, showing its current position. A "Drag to reorder" hint appears when your gallery has two or more images.

Toggling Image Visibility

Not ready to show an image publicly? You can set it as a Draft:

  1. Hover over the image and tap the 👁 eye icon.
  2. The image will dim and show a "Draft" badge — it's saved but won't appear on your product page.
  3. Tap the eye icon again to make it visible.

This is useful when you're preparing seasonal imagery or A/B testing different product photos.

Removing an Image

To delete an image from your gallery:

  1. Hover over the image card.
  2. Tap the ✕ button in the top-right corner.
  3. The image is removed immediately.

CAUTION

Removing an image is permanent. If you might want the image later, consider toggling its visibility to Draft instead of deleting it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit images on mobile?

Yes. The image editor is fully responsive and works on screens as small as 375px. On mobile devices, the tool panel slides below the preview instead of beside it.

Why do my images look slightly different after uploading?

All images are automatically converted to WebP format for optimal performance. This conversion is nearly lossless, but you may notice very minor differences in color or compression — this is normal and ensures your product pages load quickly for Visitors.

Can I upload videos?

The Media Uploader currently supports image files only. Video support is on our roadmap — stay tuned.

What if my upload fails?

If an upload fails, you'll see a red error card with a description. Common causes:

  • File too large (over 10 MB)
  • Unsupported file format
  • Network interruption

Dismiss the error and try again. If the problem persists, check your internet connection or try a smaller file.
