Customizing Your Malet Navigation

Every Malet on Mallnline comes with a built-in navigation bar that helps Visitors explore your outlet. By default, the platform shows six tabs — Home, Catalog, Blog, Community, Contact, and About — and automatically renames some of them based on your business type (for example, a restaurant sees "Menu" instead of "Catalog").

With the Navigation Customizer, you can take full control of these tabs: rename them, reorder them, toggle their visibility, and even add your own custom links.

Where to Find the Navigation Customizer

  1. Visit your Malet at mallnline.com/your-handle
  2. If you're signed in as the Malet Owner, you'll see a âš™ī¸ Manage button in the navigation bar
  3. Click Manage → Settings
  4. Scroll down to the 🧭 Navigation section

TIP

The Navigation section is located between the "Location & Details" and "Custom Domains" sections in your Settings page.

Understanding the Tab List

When you open the Navigation section, you'll see all your current tabs listed in order. Each tab row shows:

Element Description
↑ ↓ Arrows Reorder buttons to move a tab up or down in the sequence
Label field An editable text field — click it to rename the tab
Badge "Platform" for built-in tabs, or a URL for custom tabs
đŸ‘ī¸ Toggle Show or hide the tab from your Malet
✕ Remove Available only on custom tabs — removes the tab entirely

Renaming Tabs

Every tab label is fully editable. Simply click on the label text, type your preferred name, and the change is reflected immediately in the Live Preview strip at the bottom of the editor.

Some examples of effective renaming:

Vertical Default Label Custom Label Ideas
Restaurant Menu Our Kitchen, Today's Specials
Photographer Gallery Portfolio, Recent Work
Fashion Collection New Arrivals, Our Line
Professional Services What We Do, Consultations
Author Library My Books, Published Works

NOTE

Tab labels have a maximum length of 30 characters to ensure they display properly on mobile devices.

Reordering Tabs

Use the ↑ and ↓ arrow buttons on the left of each tab to change its position in the navigation bar. The first tab in the list appears furthest left in the nav bar, and the last tab appears furthest right.

The Live Preview strip at the bottom updates in real-time as you reorder.

Hiding Tabs

Not every Malet needs every tab. If you haven't set up your Blog yet, or if the Community section isn't relevant to your business, simply click the đŸ‘ī¸ toggle to hide that tab. Hidden tabs appear dimmed in the editor, and they won't show on your Malet.

IMPORTANT

Hiding a tab does not delete any content. Your Blog posts, Community section data, and Contact information are all preserved. When you're ready to show the tab again, just click the toggle.

Adding Custom Tabs

You can add up to 4 custom tabs on top of the 6 platform tabs. Custom tabs link to external URLs or resources outside your Malet.

To add a custom tab:

  1. Click "+ Add Custom Tab" at the bottom of the tab list
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Emoji Icon (optional): A single emoji to display before the tab label (e.g., 📎, đŸ›ī¸)
    • Tab Name: The label Visitors will see (max 30 characters)
    • URL: The full link (must start with https://)
  3. Click Add

Custom tabs appear with a purple left border in the editor and show a small ↗ī¸ external link icon in the live navigation bar. When a Visitor clicks a custom tab, it opens in a new browser tab.

Ideas for Custom Tabs

  • 🛒 Merch Store — Link to a companion site
  • 📅 Book a Session — Link to your scheduling tool (Calendly, etc.)
  • 📄 Menu PDF — Direct link to a downloadable menu
  • đŸŽĨ Watch Live — Link to your YouTube or Twitch channel

The Live Preview

At the bottom of the Navigation section, you'll see a dark Preview strip that simulates how your navigation bar will look to Visitors. It updates instantly as you make changes — no need to save first.

Resetting to Defaults

If you want to undo all your customizations and return to the platform's intelligent defaults (which automatically adapt labels based on your Vertical type), click the â†ē Reset to Defaults button. This clears your saved navigation configuration entirely.

WARNING

Resetting removes all custom tabs and reverts all label changes. Make sure you're ready before clicking — though you still need to hit Save Changes for the reset to take effect.

Saving Your Changes

Navigation settings are saved alongside your other Malet settings. After making changes in the Navigation section, scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click 💾 Save Changes.

Your updated navigation bar will be live immediately for all Visitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to customize my navigation?

Not at all. The platform automatically assigns contextually appropriate labels based on your Vertical type. If you're happy with the defaults, no action is needed.

Will my custom tabs work on mobile?

Yes. On mobile devices, the navigation bar becomes horizontally scrollable. Custom tabs appear in the same order you configured, and Visitors can swipe to see all tabs.

Custom tabs are designed for external URLs. For internal navigation, use the built-in platform tabs (Home, Catalog, Blog, etc.) and rename them as needed.

What happens if I change my Vertical type?

If you haven't set a custom navigation config, the platform will automatically update your tab labels to match the new Vertical defaults. If you have a custom config saved, it will remain unchanged — your custom labels take priority.
